Are you happy? Wait. Let me rephrase that, because I don’t care that much: Are you watching Happy! on SyFy?
Airing Wednesdays at 10pm, the show is based on Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson’s graphic novel of the same name.
Nick Sax, played hilariously by Chris Meloni, (who in turn liked my tweet and I included it here because I’m an attention whore) is a drunk, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man.
After a hit gone wrong, his life is turned sideways by a tiny, unbearably positive, imaginary winged horse named Happy, played by the also very funny Patton Oswalt.
This show is violence, sex and a lot of swear words, all rolled up in one. The plot involves Nick searching for his kidnapped daughter. Happy, happens to be her imaginary friend. She can see Happy. Nick can see happy. So can the twisted, evil Santa Claus that kidnaps children and is involved with the mob and some kind of furries cult.
Yeah, it’s getting weirder every episode, which is why it’s such a joy to watch.
The dialogue is great too. This past episode referenced an 80’s band beautifully (paraphrasing):
Cop 1: You’re in Homicide, not Missing Persons, which was a great band in the 80’s but that’s not the point here! What do you have to say for yourself?!
Cop 2: What are words for, when no one listens anymore?
You have to be of a certain age to appreciate that joke, so trust me kid, it was a funny line.
Happy is right up there with Preacher as a wild, won’t see what’s coming, very adult TV show, and if you have a twisted sense of humor, I think you’ll enjoy.
